The Fort of Exilles, an evocative building of enormous visual impact, was opened to the public in 2000, thanks to close collaboration between the Piedmont Region and the Museo Nazionale della Montagna Cai-Torino. An example of French and Savoy fortified architecture, it is in the first place a museum of itself. Two stimulating visitor routes help the visitor discover the monument: a circular route within the stronghold reveals the various building levels; a visit below the imposing and stunningly spectacular roof completes a fascinating itinerary. Stone soldiers, sculptures, images and sounds accompany the visitor along an unexpected journey into the past and into the memory of the mountain soldier: models, drawings and sketches narrate the Forts centuries of history in a rigorous yet evocative way.
